Girl

GIRL

Brush your teeth and make your bed;

Open the curtains wide;

Let the sunshine warm your skin,

Present yourself with pride.

.

Study hard and study well,

You never know what you might need;

Listen to teachers; even though

Some seem to be made of steel?

.

Love, and smile at, everyone;

And make your presence glow;

To all around who witness it,

You must let your nature show.

    Well done Tanja :-) I like your poem, it’s rhythmical and includes the rules we were asked to focus on. And sounds better than stream-of-consciousness-like prose ;-)

    Each culture seems to teach so many rules…many I think are constraints on being who you want to be or should be…but that is just a random thought of mine. I found the your poem thought provoking.

    The last part of your poem reminds me of M. Shelley words …” Live, and be happy and make others so”. Very optimistic , like yourself.
