Eyes Looking Back

Eyes Looking Back

A picture in the folds, Long since forgotten

Pain and guilt and remorse, Come cutting back again

Those big brown eyes

Just like a burning brand, Cleave me to my core

I’m sorry for it all

A note on the back, Like whiskey in the wound

Maybe I need that bottle again

I just can’t bear to look at you

But those eyes keep looking back

I never had a goodbye, I never had to lie one last time.

Tear it all to bits, Pieces and tears fall to floor

Only one shred remains

It’s those smiling eyes, Always those beautiful brown eyes

Looking right back into me
